It will be mandatory for new Open Universities to obtain NAAC recognition within one year of their eligibility.

Institutions that are already accredited for 2025-26 can apply for additional programmes.

Deemed to be Universities are required to first obtain permission/NOC from AICTE for programs under the purview of AICTE.

M.Phil and Ph.D. Programs cannot be run in ODL/Online Mode in any subject.

All allied and healthcare programs (including Psychology) covered under the NCAHP Act, 2021 are banned from the August 2026 session.

Science Based ODL programs are open only to those institutions which have NAAC score of 3.26 or more, or which are Open Universities, or which have been included in NIRF Top-100 at least twice in the last three cycles.

UGC ODL Online Application 2026-27: How to Apply?
For UGC ODL Online Application 2026-27, institutions have to follow the steps given below:
- First of all the official website of UGC DEB deb.ugc.ac.in Go to.
- After coming to the homepage, click on the ‘Registration’ option at the top right side.
- Then a new page will open, here read the Eligible Category carefully and agree to the instructions of the category in which your institution falls.
- After this, tick the checkbox containing Declaration and Undertaking and click on ‘Proceed to Registration’.
- Then the registration form will open, select your state, institution type and name in the registration form. Fill the remaining information carefully.
- Enter NAAC and NIRF information. The system will automatically check eligibility.

Who can apply for UGC ODL Online Application 2026-27?
Only eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) can apply for this. ODL requires NAAC score 3.01 or NIRF Top-100 rank, while Open Universities can apply with any NAAC score.
Can an institution apply only for the online programme?
Yes, institutions can apply only for Online Mode or only for ODL Mode or both. For online programmes, the institute must be at least 3 years old.
